My interest in digital started well before digital marketing careers were on the roadmap. As a Millennial, I was fortunate enough to have access to computers at a young age; I remember playing 8-bit computer games on floppy disks in my elementary school classrooms. In the early 2000s, I built my own rudimentary websites, IMed with friends, and downloaded music from Napster before it got shut down. (I was the reason my parents got a second phone line, for anyone who remembers dial-up.) After entering the real world following undergrad, I made the internet a major part of my full-time gig.

Whenever I have the opportunity to plan a strategy from the ground up, I let the audience dictate the needs. Strong advertising work leverages psychographic information to contextualize why people post certain questions on Reddit, search only for certain keywords on-the-go, or go about purchasing something online. Reading stats about how most of the planet is connecting to the internet through a smartphone is one thing; understanding how, when, and why that matters is another completely.
